Seven of us, ranging in age from 8 to 73, participated in the tour. Our guide, Mr. Takami, had an entertaining way of speaking and taught us a great deal about Shiraya Unsuikyo. Along the way, we encountered some difficulties—one of our 73-year-old participants got a blister and another slipped in the river—but thanks to the guide’s kind support, we managed to reach Taiko-iwa. We were blessed with good weather, and it was a wonderful experience with breathtaking views. It was a memorable experience for everyone. Thank you very much.

Even before I left, you gave me recommendations for places to visit beyond the tour, which really helped me get ready. Since a trip to Yakushima seemed a bit daunting, your advice was a huge help. You were incredibly knowledgeable and gave me advice not only on the tour itself but also on Yakushima in general—and thanks to you, I was even able to see baby turtles at Nagata Beach the very next day! Thank you so much for everything.

It was my first time on Yakushima, so I didn’t know my way around at all—and it was also my first time trekking. I’d asked my 70-year-old mother to come along, so I was a little nervous, but we met a truly wonderful guide, and I was moved all day long. Best of all, my 9-year-old son seemed to be having a great time the whole time, chatting away—it had been a long time since I’d seen him like that, and it made me so happy. Since my 70-year-old mother was with us, we toured Shiratani Unsuikyo and the Western Forest Road to see Okawa Falls—it was a truly satisfying day. I was deeply moved to see my son re-energized by being in nature, and my mother also came home having learned so much. I’m so grateful for the chance to meet such a wonderful guide. Thank you so much for the recommendation. To be honest, before going to Yakushima, I thought, “At 41, this is my first and last trip to Yakushima!” But by the time we were on the flight home, my son and I were already asking each other, “When should we go to Yakushima next?”—we were completely captivated by the island’s charm. Yakushima, the mystical island. I hope it continues to be such a wonderful place. I’ll definitely be back! Next time, I want to try hiking to the Jomon Sugi…!!!

We participated as a family of four, with our youngest child in middle school. Thanks to the encouraging words that helped us stay focused, we were able to make it to the top without any trouble. The guide also gave us easy-to-understand explanations about how the surrounding natural landscape was formed, giving us an experience we couldn’t have gotten just by looking at it—the kids were absolutely thrilled. Thank you very much.

My friend and I participated in the 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. tour, led by Mr. Yoshino. When we called to ask, “We’d like to try the Sasanoha Bento—would it be possible to stop by Restaurant Kamogawa on the way?” he actually bought two bento boxes for us before coming to pick us up at the hotel. Also, when we asked, “We’d love to see a cedar tree as large as the Jomon Sugi—one that’s over 1,000 years old,” he suggested, “In that case, let’s hike for the first 80 minutes, then drive over to see the Kigen-sugi, a 3,000-year-old cedar.” We were completely satisfied—we got to enjoy the hike and see the massive cedar we’d been hoping to see. During the hike, he would stop from time to time to explain things in detail, such as, “This cedar is a certain type, which is why it has this name,” or “Even though this moss turns brown, it revives whenever it rains—and even if it looks dead, it actually stays alive for four months.” It wasn’t just fun; it was a very meaningful experience that taught us a lot. Since it was my first time visiting Yakushima and my first time trekking there, I was a little nervous, but I had so much fun that I want to come back, and I definitely want to ask Mr. Yoshino to be my guide again next time.

I was a little nervous about my first dive, but thanks to the guide’s thorough instructions, I was able to get into the water with confidence. The underwater scenery was absolutely beautiful, and I even got to swim alongside a cute sea turtle—it was truly amazing!! I’m so grateful that you took so many photos for me. Thank you so much!
