It is located about 10 minutes up a steep mountain path from Tsuji Pass, further into the interior from the Mononoke Forest (moss forest). The atmosphere of the overgrown forest up to that point is completely different, with a clear blue sky and a 360-degree panorama...!
Taikoiwa is depicted in the Ghibli movie Princess Mononoke as the place where Ashitaka and Moro (the mountain dog who took San's mother's place) confronted each other.
A refreshing breeze at Taikoiwa will surely relieve the fatigue of trekking.
Walking time at Shiratani-unsui Gorge is approximately 7 hours.

Regarding breakfast and lunch
We cannot prepare boxed lunches. We also do not order box lunches on behalf of our customers.
There is not a single convenience store on Yakushima, so please make sure to prepare your own food either by ordering it in advance from your accommodation or by getting it yourself at a supermarket the day before.
Customers ordering from a bento shop should make their own reservations at "Asahi Bento; 0997-46-4007; reservations can be made until 9:00 p.m. the day before the tour. Other bento shops are not on the way, so the guide will be with you on the way to and from the shops.You cannot stop by.(Please order at the same time as the pick-up time! (Please order your lunch box pick-up time at the same time as the pick-up time. Pick-up and drop-off times will be provided 2 days prior to the tour.)

There are rental stores on Yakushima for the above equipment. Please rent the equipment by the day before the trip.

If a reservation is cancelled by the customer after it has been confirmed, the following cancellation fees will apply

After 6:00 p.m. 4 days prior to the event until 6:00 p.m. 2 days prior to the event: 50% of all fees
After 6:00 p.m. 2 days prior to the event to the day of the event: 100% of the full price*However, no cancellation fee will be charged if the tour is deemed impossible by the guide in charge due to adverse weather conditions such as typhoons.

*The tour may be cancelled, the course may be changed, or the tour time may be shortened at the discretion of the guide due to inclement weather on the day of the tour. If the tour is cancelled before departure on the day of the tour, a full refund will be given, but if the course is changed after departure, the tour fee will not be refunded.
*In the event that we determine that the tour cannot be conducted safely due to a guest's physical condition, physical fitness, or inadequate clothing or equipment, or that the tour would be detrimental to other guests, we may ask the guest to withdraw from the tour, even on the day of the tour. In such cases, the tour fee will not be refunded. (Please be especially careful with your trekking equipment.)

Q. I don't have trekking equipment...
We do not provide rentals, but you are advised to prepare your trekking equipment the day before at a rental store near your lodgings.

Q. I have a different accommodation (pick-up/drop-off point) before and after the tour...Don't worry! Please check out of your hotel in the morning and leave your luggage in the guide's car.
If you are not within the pick-up area, we will take you to a nearby bus stop, cab, or rental car agency if you have made a reservation.
Q. How long can I make a reservation?It would be helpful if you could contact us at least 2 days in advance, as pick-up and drop-off times will be finalized 2 nights before the event.Q.
