520代Posted in August 2026My friend and I participated in the 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. tour, led by Mr. Yoshino. When we called to ask, “We’d like to try the Sasanoha Bento—would it be possible to stop by Restaurant Kamogawa on the way?” he actually bought two bento boxes for us before coming to pick us up at the hotel. Also, when we asked, “We’d love to see a cedar tree as large as the Jomon Sugi—one that’s over 1,000 years old,” he suggested, “In that case, let’s hike for the first 80 minutes, then drive over to see the Kigen-sugi, a 3,000-year-old cedar.” We were completely satisfied—we got to enjoy the hike and see the massive cedar we’d been hoping to see. During the hike, he would stop from time to time to explain things in detail, such as, “This cedar is a certain type, which is why it has this name,” or “Even though this moss turns brown, it revives whenever it rains—and even if it looks dead, it actually stays alive for four months.” It wasn’t just fun; it was a very meaningful experience that taught us a lot. Since it was my first time visiting Yakushima and my first time trekking there, I was a little nervous, but I had so much fun that I want to come back, and I definitely want to ask Mr. Yoshino to be my guide again next time.

He also made sure to pace the tour to fit our schedule. I’m truly grateful for how kind and flexible he was in every situation. We had such a wonderful time that if I ever have the chance to visit Yakushima again, I would definitely ask him to be our guide. Thank you very much!

450代Month of posting: 2025/07During the trek, I seemed to be getting dehydrated and our guide gave me some salt to get me out of my need to drink water. I guess they decided it would be better to continue on to the Jomon Cedars before it got too crowded, but the pace was too fast for me on the outward journey, and it was so hard that I could not keep up with the guide and the young companions, and I was flickeringly ready to retire. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks to this, we were able to have lunch at a covered place and were served coffee and bread at a pavilion on the return trip. We also appreciated the miso soup at lunch time.
