Background on the Name Change and Redesign

THE HOTEL YAKUSHIMA Ocean&Forest is the former "Seaside Hotel Yakushima," whichMarch 2021This hotel changed its name and reopened on the 16th.

The address and phone number have not changed, and this is not a different hotel. It may still be listed under its former name on review and booking sites.

If you found this page by searching for the old name, please rest assured that this is the same hotel and feel free to check the information here.

What's Changed and What's Still Charming

For the redesign, we used a gray color schemeA soothing interiorAs a result, a dining café overlooking the ocean has also opened. We’ve received feedback from previous guests saying, “It’s become neat and clean.”

The property now also features guest rooms in the new wing, “Namioto Biyori,” expanding the range of room types available.

On the other hand, its convenient features—such as its location about a 5-minute walk from Miyanoura Port, its elevated vantage point overlooking the ocean, free parking, and large public bath—remain as appealing as ever. When reading reviews from when the hotel was known by its former name, keep in mind that the interior and facilities may have differed from what they are today.

5 Must-See Nearby Attractions to Enjoy Along with Your Stay

    Yakushima: Jomon Sugi Hike

Using your hotel as a base, here are five popular spots on Yakushima. From mountains and waterfalls to seaside hot springs, you’ll get to fully experience the unique natural beauty that Yakushima has to offer. Please note that due to the impact of Typhoon No. 24 in September 2026, traffic restrictions are in place on roads leading to the mountainous areas, so be sure to check the latest information before visiting.

Shiratani Unsui Gorge (Shiratani Unsui Gorge)

Trekking Through the Moss-Covered Forest of Shiratani Unsuikyo

Known for its moss-covered forests, this is one of Yakushima’s most iconic natural recreation forests. It’s only about a 20- to 25-minute drive from the hotel, making it a popular spot where you can easily take a stroll through the Yakusugi cedar forest.

However, due to damage caused by Typhoon No. 24, the prefectural road has been closed, and inside the park as well,Park ClosedIt is reported that this situation is ongoing (as of September 17, 2026). Please be sure to check official sources for the resumption date.

    Okawa Falls

    Yakushima: Okawa Falls

With a drop of 88 meters, this is one of Yakushima’s largest waterfalls. It has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls, and since you can walk right up to the base of the falls, you can experience the powerful spray up close.

Since it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes by car from the hotel, be sure to set aside about half a day. Water levels rise and the spray gets stronger after it rains, so it’s a good idea to bring rain gear.

    abundant natural beauty

    abundant natural beauty

This popular spot in southeastern Yakushima features a waterfall cascading down a massive granite outcrop. A walking path about 100 meters long leads from the parking lot to the observation deck, making it easy to stop by.

The tour is free, and it takes15 to 20 minutesThat's about right. It takes about 50 to 60 minutes by car from the hotel, so I recommend combining this with a visit to Okawa Falls for a waterfall tour.

It's about 36 km from the hotel, and since the road winds through the mountains, be sure to allow plenty of time for the trip. Due to Typhoon No. 24, traffic restrictions were in place on this route as well, so please check the latest road and park opening information before heading out.

    Hirauchi Kainaka Onsen

Twice a day,Around low tideThis is a natural hot spring by the ocean where you can soak for about two hours. It’s about a 55-minute drive from the hotel.

The bathing fee is paid as a "donation," and the suggested amount is around 200 to 300 yen. It is a mixed-gender bath with no changing room; bathers must wear a bath towel or a bathing robe, and swimsuits are not permitted.

Check the tide table to find out when low tide is before you head out. Don't forget to bring a change of clothes and something warm!
