At the end of Shiratani Unsui Gorge is Taikoiwa, where you can see the mountains of Yakushima and the clear Awa River.
The Kusu River trail is now passable, but the wilderness trail is closed.It takes about 6 to 7 hours to reach Taikoiwa, whereas the normal course to Taikoiwa is 5 to 6 hours.
