    Although guidebooks state that the round trip takes 4 hours, it is better to consider "about 6 hours" if you want to eat lunch and enjoy the moss forest (Princess Mononoke Forest) at your leisure.

    Fat Clothing
    Top] Quick-drying and elastic are best.
    Long sleeves are recommended. Prepare fleece or other warm clothing except during the summer months.
    [Underwear] Avoid jeans and cotton pants.
    Short pants are also possible, but spats or tights are recommended to avoid exposing skin.
    Socks] To prevent socks from slipping off, be sure toWear longer socks.

    I had signed up for a trek to Shiratani Unsuikyo, but since the trail was closed, we changed our plans and were guided from the Western Forest Road in the World Heritage area toward the coast. I saw so many adorable Yakushima macaques and Yakushima deer, as well as banyan trees that amazed me with their remarkable growth history—not to mention the rivers, waterfalls, rocks, and the ocean… It was a day filled with wonder and healing, as I was deeply moved by the splendor of this World Heritage site, which far exceeded my expectations. ✨ Our guide, Yakusachi-san, was very knowledgeable about Yakushima and taught us so much about the various sights we encountered. I truly feel that I wouldn’t have experienced this sense of wonder if I hadn’t hired a guide. I’m so grateful! He also took plenty of photos and videos at just the right moments, and it made me realize once again just how amazing photos taken surrounded by nature really are♪ It’s become such a wonderful memory, and I’ve fallen in love with Yakushima!!

    Before we left, I was constantly worried about whether I’d be able to keep up for the entire long trek, but since it was a private tour where we could choose our own route, even beginners like me were able to enjoy it without any trouble.     My child was absolutely thrilled by the scenery of the Mononoke Forest and had a wonderful time. I was a little worried about whether my child would have the stamina to walk the somewhat long distance to Taiko Rock, but thanks to our private guide, who kindly adjusted the pace to my child’s and offered support, my child was able to participate with a smile all the way to the end.     The private trek from Shiratani Unsuikyo to Taiko-iwa offers great value for the price. We were able to choose a route that suited our fitness level, and the guide was very knowledgeable. However, since it involves a long walk, everyone should make sure to wear well-broken-in shoes and bring clothing appropriate for the weather. Overall, we were satisfied with the arrangements and service.

    My soul was completely cleansed by the beautiful scenery of Shiratani Unsuikyo, stretching as far as the eye could see. I found deep healing in walking through the moss-covered forest, bathed in the light filtering through the trees… It was a wonderful, unforgettable experience—one where I could step away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and feel as though I were melting into the vast nature of Yakushima.     I wasn’t very confident in my physical stamina, and before we set out, I was constantly worried about whether I’d be able to keep up on the trek to Taiko Rock. However, thanks to the early morning start—when it was still cool—and the guide’s attentive support, even a beginner like me had no trouble. We were able to avoid the crowds and make our way through the mystical forest, soothed by its beauty. If I had to nitpick, the stairs on the way up were a bit tough. I’m really glad I took the plunge and joined the tour.
