Shiratani-unsui Gorge and Yakusugiland are quite far apart. Even with a rental car, it will take one and a half hours. It is possible if you can make it in time for the meeting.

Nothing but Instagram-worthy spots! The moss-covered forest at Shiratani Unsuikyo was so beautiful that every angle made for a picture-perfect shot♪ Thanks to the mysterious atmosphere of the "Spirited Away" forest, I took tons of super stylish photos with my friends and was completely satisfied☆ Since we had the place all to ourselves, I could get as many shots as I wanted from any angle I liked—I definitely recommend it! The last time I visited Yakushima, I hiked all the way to the Jomon Sugi, but this time I opted for a half-day tour of Shiratani Unsuikyo, which is a bit more casual. As always, the guide was incredibly knowledgeable, and I was able to fully enjoy the mystical scenery of the “Forest of the Spirits.” Since it was a private tour, they accommodated our pace, and I’m grateful for their service, which never fails to meet my expectations no matter how many times I take it.

I wasn’t confident in my stamina and was worried the whole time before we set out whether I’d be able to make it all the way, but thanks to the private tour and the guide who kindly supported me at my own pace, I was able to enjoy it to the fullest. I was moved by the scenery of the mysterious forest—which has even served as a movie location—and I’m so glad I took the plunge and joined the tour. However, it started raining a little partway through, so it would have been perfect if there had been a bit more detailed information in advance about renting rain gear.

We started by walking slowly from the entrance, making our way into a world of moss-covered greenery. Next, listening to the babbling brook, we ventured deep into the forest and found ourselves surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the woods—a setting that has even been featured in movies. Since we had the place to ourselves, we didn’t have to worry about the pace of others and were able to fully enjoy nature at our own pace while taking photos. Even in a half-day tour, we were able to feel the charm of Yakushima. The Mononoke Forest was fantastic, with the weather changing the expression of the forest, the atmosphere, and the shades of fog. I applied for this tour in the hope of experiencing the forests of Yakushima on a day trip using the morning and afternoon high speed boat between Tanegashima and Yakushima. Since half a day was too much time, we asked them to extend the trip from half a day to a full day so that we could maximize our time according to the time of the return boat. I think it was a good decision. Unfortunately, it was raining hard, but I felt it was essential to have a guide accompany us because there were rivers with rising water that we could have crossed only with the guide's lead, and because of the risk of my wife's accident on the steep, narrow, slippery trail. We were able to climb up to the bottom of the trail with short breaks in between and explanations at key points. The mossy forest was more vivid and visually stimulating with the rainwater. I enjoyed listening to the stories of Yakusugi cedar and moss. It was very mysterious. We had never trekked before and were not physically fit. We had never been trekking before and were not physically strong, so the tour guide was very helpful and gave us advice on how to proceed in a way that suited us. We were also treated to drinks and homemade salt at the breaks, which was also a valuable experience. It is a beautiful place and I would like everyone to experience it.

I participated in this tour with my 77-year-old mother. Although my mother's age limited the number of tours she could participate in, since the tour was a private one, she was guided at a pace that matched her own pace. Unfortunately, due to a route change caused by a typhoon in September, we could not go as far as the moss forest at my mother's pace, but we were able to enjoy the atmosphere and finish the tour happily even halfway through. I was very worried because it had been raining all the time during the rainy season, but on the two days we visited in July, the sun was shining brightly ‼︎. Some of the trails were closed due to rain on the day of the trek. But the guide was very tactful and we were able to enjoy the trekking for as much time as we could.

I was looking for a tour where I could refresh myself in the wilderness instead of sea activities and I found it. It was like I was in Princess Mononoke. The scenery was so true to the movie that it looked as if there were little white creatures that appeared in the movie.

The Mononoke Forest at Shiratani-unsui Gorge is like an otherworldly place, and I was amazed at the variety of mosses! Words cannot describe the beauty of the moss-covered forest. The guide was easy to understand and even a beginner could join the tour!

The tour to enjoy the mossy forest was more beautiful than I expected and best of all, it was easy to join. This time I visited Yakushima at the request of my parents, who are in their 60s, and I applied for a tour that they could also participate in. Since it was a half-day tour, we were able to spend a pleasant time with a moderate amount of exercise.

I participated with my family! We had a 6th grader and a 3rd grader, but with kind support we were able to enjoy the tour safely. We were impressed by the fantastic atmosphere of Shiratani-unsui Gorge and were healed by the beauty of nature 😊.

This was a private party for my parents. My parents enjoyed it much more than we did, and I am glad they joined us. It was nice to be in the great nature and in the clear air.
