The tour was not only a great opportunity to enjoy nature, but also to learn about the culture and lifestyle of Yakushima. The guide's stories were interesting and made the day full of learning.
I joined the tour with my 3 and 6 year old grandchildren and my son and his wife. We were fascinated by the history of Yakushima and the wonders of the Yakusugi cedars that our guide taught us. Since it was a custom-made tour, the guide devised a schedule according to my grandson's pace, and it was the most enjoyable trekking experience.
It was a fresh experience for me to walk through the forest with my children. It was also good to see the expressions on their faces, which they do not usually show, as we naturally struck up a conversation.
I was not confident about trekking, but was very satisfied with the moderate distance. I was overwhelmed by the scale and presence of the yakusugi. I recommend this tour for beginners.
During the trek, I seemed to be getting dehydrated and our guide gave me some salt to get me out of my need to drink water. I guess they decided it would be better to continue on to the Jomon Cedars before it got too crowded, but the pace was too fast for me on the outward journey, and it was so hard that I could not keep up with the guide and the young companions, and I was flickeringly ready to retire. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks to this, we were able to have lunch at a covered place and were served coffee and bread at a pavilion on the return trip. We also appreciated the miso soup at lunch time.
I participated with my elementary school child, and as a parent, I was relieved that the course was one that I could walk without getting bored. It was impressive that the children became quiet in front of the Kigen cedars.
