We’re a couple—my husband is in his 60s, and I’m in my 50s. I was worried about my husband’s stamina, so I booked a private tour. Although he had been working out at the gym, right after we started hiking, his steps seemed unsteady. I’d always dreamed of seeing the Jomon Sugi, and the sense of accomplishment when I finally reached it on my own two feet was incredible. We went to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday. She had said she wanted to see the Jomon Sugi at least once, so I’m glad she was able to see it without any problems. Since both my parents are in their 60s, I was worried before we left about how things would go, but after the guide advised us to practice climbing stairs, it seems she made sure to go up and down the stairs at her workplace—all the way to the fifth floor—several times. We were blessed with good weather on the day of the tour, and I think that’s why we were able to complete the hike without any issues. The guide paced the tour perfectly, and it was really great that we were able to take our time photographing the scenic spots on the way back.
