About Yakusugi Nature Center
The Yakusugi Nature Museum is a recommended spot for those who want to learn more about Yakusugi cedars.
The diorama and computer graphics are used to explain the origin of Yakushima's plants and forests, including the Yakusugi cedar trees.
There is also a hands-on corner where visitors can lift a chainsaw for logging, and a display of trolleys and diesel locomotives that were used to transport lumber and other daily commodities.
◆Open hours: 9:00-17:00
Admission: Adults 600 yen / High school and university students 400 yen / Elementary and junior high school students 300 yen
◆Closed: First Tuesday of each month, Year-end and New Year holidays
Directions to Yakusugi Nature Center
Yakusugi Nature Center is located about 35 minutes by rental car from the Miyanoura area.
◆Car rental
From Prefectural Road 77, when you see Matsubanda Kotsu, a red building on your right, turn right at the intersection with the Naono Suisan sign.
Then follow the road to the Arakawa Climbing bus parking lot (Yakusugi Shizenkan).
◆For buses
Take the Yakushima Bus bound for "Yakusugi Shizenkan".
