Yakushima-Taichudake
What is Taichudake?
Taichudake is one of the mountains of Yakushima with an elevation of 1497 meters, and the Tenbashira-ishi stone at the top of the mountain is extremely famous and many people have seen it in images.
It is an outlier even on Yakushima Island, where you can find many granite megaliths. You can tell from its appearance that granite is easily weathered, but when you see the 40-meter-high Tenpashuseki, you cannot help but feel that it has been around for a long time.
When trekking Mt. Taichung, it is always a good idea to ask for a guide if you are a beginner.
You should estimate 7 to 8 hours for the round trip.
Even if it is not the Tenpashira Stone at the summit, it is a reassuring presence because as you approach the summit, there will be times when you will have to pass through huge granite rocks.
Since there are not as many tourists as Shiratani-unsui Gorge, although you will be climbing the mountain from Yakusugiland, I recommend trekking to Mount Tachudake if you want to enjoy the pure nature of Yakushima.
Directions to Taichudake
Taichudake is,It is located approximately 40 minutes by rental car or 45 minutes by bus from the Miyanoura area.
For rental cars
From Prefectural Road 77, when you see Matsubanda Kotsu, a red building on your right, turn right at the intersection with the Naono Suisan sign.
Then follow the road to the Arakawa Climbing bus parking lot (Yakusugi Shizenkan).
After parking, transfer to the Arakawa Climbing Bus.
For buses
Yakushima Island Bus to "Yakushima IslandYakusugi Nature CenterUse the "□" line.
After arriving at Yakusugi Nature Center,Transfer to the Arakawa Climbing Bus.
