Yakushima Island - Middle Banyan Tree
What is an Intermediate Banyan Tree?
The banyan tree is an essential part of the daily landscape of Yakushima.
If Yakusugi and Jomon cedars are extraordinary symbols, banyan trees are symbols of everyday life.
The middle banyan tree towers over the middle settlement in the form of a large arched gate.
Some people may recall a nostalgic feeling when standing in this place.
The reason is that this intermediate banyan tree was also the location for the 2002 morning TV novel "Manten.
The main character "Manten" is set in the Yoshida area, a bit far from the middle of the city, but many people will remember this impressive banyan tree.
Note that since it is located in a village, only a few cars can be parked in the parking lot.
By public transportation, take the Yakushima Kotsu bus bound for Okawa Falls.
Please get off at the middle and walk for about 5 minutes to get there.
