What is Married Couple Cedar?
There are many such cedars throughout Japan, but this one is said to be 2,000 years old for the husband and wife and 1,500 years old for the wife.
The number of foreign visitors to Yakushima has increased rapidly due to the island's World Heritage status and the Princess Mononoke movie, and it is one of the most popular spots for taking commemorative photos.
Many visitors come here to see the Jomon cedars, but it takes 8 to 10 hours of climbing to reach them.
There are a couple of cedars on the way to the Jomon Cedars, but they are located at an altitude of 1230 meters, so many people would like to see the Jomon Cedars if they come this far.
For this reason, guided tours are recommended for beginners.
We can also arrange for a box lunch, although it will be an early morning departure.
Although 80% of the course is on the trolley path, it is recommended that you have a portable ration with you as you will be walking for a long time.
How to get to Married Couple Cedars
From Prefectural Road 77, when you see Matsubanda Kotsu, a red building on your right, turn right at the intersection with the Naono Suisan sign.
Then follow the road to the Arakawa Climbing bus parking lot (Yakusugi Shizenkan).
After parking, transfer to the Arakawa Climbing Bus.
