About Sea Turtle Observation Meetings

The sea turtle observation event is organized by the Nagata District Sea Turtle Liaison Council. Please pay the participation fee in cash directly to the Council on the day of the event (3,000 yen per adult).

The tour guide will handle advance reservations for the observation session.So, once you've signed up, you can participate with peace of mind!

Sea turtle observation meeting participation fee
*A separate fee is required to participate in the sea turtle observation tour.
*Please bring cash as payment will be made directly to the Sea Turtle Council (cards and smartphone payments are not accepted).
*Fees are as follows

Guide fee, rental fees (1 roll-top backpack for valuables, raincoat, simple telescope for stargazing while waiting for sea turtles, headlamp for footlighting (cannot be used during sea turtle observation), 500ml bottle of barley tea, light snacks (pizza, nuts), carbonated drinks (Apple Tizer), and one can per person of your choice of light alcoholic beverages such as beer

*Participants must be able to walk on an uneven, dark sandy beach while following the red light at the front of the group, and must be able to walk without falling and without the use of assistive devices.

Cancellation Policy

*If a reservation is cancelled for the customer's convenience, a cancellation fee will be charged as follows

7 to 2 days prior: 30%.
Day before or on the day of the event: 100%.

However, no cancellation fee will be charged in the following cases

Weather conditions: When warnings of heavy rain, floods, storms, etc. are issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Traffic restrictions: When prefectural roads and public roads leading to the trailhead are closed or blocked due to landslides, icing, flooding, etc.
Cancellation of transportation: In the event that you are unable to arrive at the island due to a cancellation of your means of transportation (plane or boat) to Yakushima and your trip is cancelled.

*The tour will be canceled in case of rain.

*The guide will make advance reservations for sea turtle observation sessions.

*For the protection of sea turtles, the observation session will end at 23:00. Please understand that sea turtles are natural creatures and that you may not be able to observe them laying eggs.

*Public transportation such as buses and cabs do not operate at night. Please come by rental car.

About the Sea Turtle Observation Meeting

*Please participate in turtle watching sessions and follow the guidance of staff members.

*Please refrain from entering Nagata Beach (Inaka Beach, Maehama, Yotsusehama) except to participate in observation meetings, etc. Unregulated entry to the beach may adversely affect sea turtles coming ashore and hatchlings in the ground.

*Activities such as touching, moving, capturing, or collecting sea turtles or their eggs are prohibited in principle by Kagoshima Prefectural Ordinance and the Natural Parks Law.
