Yakushima - World Heritage Center
What is the World Heritage Center?
The Okushima World Heritage Center is a facility where visitors can learn more about Okushima, the first island in Japan to be recognized as a World Heritage site.
The museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00. Admission is by 4:30 pm.
It is closed on Saturdays from December to February and from December 29 to January 3.
Parking will be for two cars and admission will be free.
The facility is designed for visitors to learn about the Oku Island World Natural Heritage Site and national parks.
You can also learn about the rules of mountain climbing at this facility. The facility is run by the Environment Agency and is a good place to learn about the nature of Oku Island.
Directions to the World Heritage Center
The location is a 10-minute drive from Yakushima Airport, or a 10-minute bus ride on the Okushima Kotsu or Matsubanda Kotsu bus bound for Yakusugiland, and a 2-minute walk from the Yakusugi Shizenmae bus stop.
