Yakushima-Miyanoura-dake
What is Miyanoura-dake?
Miyanoura-dake is the main peak of Yakushima. The summit rises 1,936 meters, making it the highest peak in Kyushu.
It is also one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
Furthermore, since Yakushima became a World Natural Heritage site in 1993, many climbers visit the island every year.
As Kyushu's highest peak, the view from the top of the mountain is a 360° panorama, offering a spectacular view.
The area around the summit is also home to many oddly shaped rocks made of granite, providing a unique landscape.
The course to the summit also includes a visit to the Yakusugi cedars along the way, which is a luxurious mountain climbing course unique to Yakushima.
However, because of the sheer distance, there is only one day trip course, and it is not an easy mountain.
In addition, the high elevation makes it a challenging climbing course.
Directions to Miyanoura-dake
There are two trailheads for Mt. Miyanoura: the Yodogawa trailhead and Shiratani Unsui Gorge.
To get to each of them, you can take a bus.
