Although I was traveling alone, the certified guide was very friendly and chatted with me, so I was able to enjoy the long trek without feeling lonely. The emotion I felt when I stood face-to-face with the Jomon Sugi—a tree I’d always dreamed of seeing—was indescribable, and I spent a truly luxurious day completely immersed in the deep forests of Yakushima.

I wasn’t confident in my stamina and was constantly worried before the tour whether I’d be able to walk for such a long time, but thanks to the guide, who adjusted our pace based on how I was doing and offered words of encouragement, I was able to successfully reach the Jomon Sugi! The sense of accomplishment and the emotion I felt upon arrival are indescribable. The Yakushima snacks we were given really hit the spot after my long, tiring hike. I’m so glad I took the plunge and gave it a try.

After walking along the long, long tram track, when I finally came upon the Jomon Sugi deep in the forest, its sheer majesty cleansed my soul. As I looked up at this giant tree that had lived for so many years in the silence, it felt as if my petty everyday worries were slowly melting away into the forest... It was a truly blissful and healing moment.
